Energy audits: find out where your energy goes.

An energy audit is the first step to cutting consumption and operating costs. As an EPRA-licensed Category A energy audit firm, we measure how your facility uses energy and show which measures pay back, and how fast.

Two levels of audit

Walk-Through Audit (WTA). A diagnosis of how the facility performs: the building's consumption profile, an overview of the savings potential and preliminary financials (CAPEX and OPEX). It tells you quickly whether a deeper study is worthwhile and where to focus.

Investment-Grade Audit (IGA). A detailed analysis with accurate metering of every energy end use and 24/7 consumption monitoring, a detailed technical design, and a financial proposal with ROI and simple payback for each measure. It is the document lenders and boards need to approve an investment.

What we look at

  • Electricity bills, tariffs, demand and reactive power charges
  • Power quality: voltage, harmonics and power factor
  • Lighting, air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation
  • Motors, pumps, fans and the way they are controlled
  • Hot water and pool heating, and the potential for heat pumps
  • Roof and site space for solar PV

Regulatory energy audits in Kenya

Large energy users in Kenya are designated under the Energy (Energy Management) Regulations and must have their energy audits carried out by a licensed energy auditor. As an EPRA-licensed Category A energy audit firm, we carry out these audits and can then implement the recommended measures.

From audit to savings

Every audit ends with a prioritised list of measures, each with its investment, savings and payback. We can then design, finance, install and maintain them, and verify the results on our EnMIS platform.

How we deliver

From measurement to verified savings.

Every measure follows the same process, and can be bought outright, leased or delivered under an Energy Savings Performance Contract with no upfront capital.

  1. Feasibility studyAnalysis of the facility's energy consumption, losses and savings potential.
  2. EngineerTechnical design and a bankable business case covering investment, savings and payback.
  3. FinancingSupport in securing financing, including the documentation lenders require.
  4. ImplementProcurement, installation and commissioning by our own engineers.
  5. VerifySavings measured to IPMVP on our EnMIS platform, reported monthly.
  6. MaintainPreventive maintenance for the full contract term, so that savings are sustained.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a walk-through and an investment-grade audit?

A walk-through audit gives the consumption profile, savings potential and preliminary costs. An investment-grade audit adds metering of every end use, 24/7 monitoring, detailed design and a financial proposal with ROI and payback per measure.

Are you licensed to carry out energy audits?

Yes. Icopower is licensed by EPRA as an Energy Audit Firm, Category A.

How much does an energy audit cost?

It depends on the size and complexity of the facility. Contact us with your site details and recent electricity bills and we will propose the right level of audit.

What happens after the audit?

You get a prioritised list of measures with costs, savings and payback. We can implement them by outright purchase, leasing or an Energy Savings Performance Contract with no upfront capital.
